SeDoMoCha completes an undefeated season

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The SeDoMoCha Middle School softball Eagles capped off the last week of the 2013 season with two regular season wins and a victory in the Penquis League championship game vs. the Tigers of Dexter.

EAGLES FLY THE HIGHEST — The SeDoMoCha Middle School softball team capped off an undefeated season by winning the Penquis League championship with a June 1 victory at Dexter. Below, eighth-graders were presented with roses before a May 29 home game.     The first game of the week was on Monday, May 28 with the Eagles traveling to Guilford to face the Pirates. The Eagles offense was lead by Makayla McCorrison, Kendra Ewer, Abby Bourget and Jenna Clukey each with two hits. Other Eagles adding to the offense were Kiara Prescott and Alli Bourget.    
    The Eagle defense was excellent with these starters in the infield: Brianna Adkins at first base, Becca Anderson at second, Grace Bickford at shortstop  Alli Bourget at third and Ewer catching. In the outfield was Abbi Bourget in left, McCorrison in center and Prescott in right. Clukey was the starting pitcher for the Eagles with Abbi Bourget coming in for the fourth inning —  the girls combined for 15 strikeouts.
    Head coach Scott Anderson used many substitutions during the course of the game putting Kilee Hutchinson on first and Maci Poulin, Cailin Seavey and Lexi London in the outfield.    
    On May 29 the Penquis team came to town on a very damp, rainy day. The weather created some difficulties for the pitchers and the infield for both teams. Starting pitcher for the Eagles was Abbi Bourget with Clukey coming in as relief. The two pitchers held Penquis to only four runs during the course of the game.
    The starting infield and outfield for the Eagles was made up of all eighth-graders with Adkins at first, Anderson at second, Bickford at shortstop, Alli Bourget at third and Ewer catching, Hutchinson in left, McCorrison in center and Poulin in right. Anderson moved players around so that all the eighth-graders would have an opportunity to play several innings. These moves included Sam Higgins to replace Poulin in left and Cassie Panciera on to replace Bickford, who moved to first, and Abbi Bourget went to shortstop.
    The Penquis team came out ready to play scoring the first two runs of the game. The Eagles’ offense found themselves in a position rarely seen this year, coming from behind. This didn’t seem to bother the team too badly as they went on to get a few runs in their first at-bat. Leading the offense attack was Clukey with three hits. Prescott, Anderson and Panciera also had some very hard hit balls.
    By the end of the game Anderson had used all his players putting sixth-graders Seavey, Kylie Dow, Hannah Sprecker, London and Poulin into the game.
    On Saturday, June 1 the Eagles traveled to Dexter to take on the Tigers. The Eagles were as fired up as the temperatures outside. Anderson wanted the girls to get an early lead and the Eagles answered the call by scoring nine runs in the first inning. The offense for the Eagles was lead by Clukey,  Alli Bourget, Anderson, Ewer and Abbi Bourget, who all had three hits each.  
    Anderson started his regular players for this Penquis League championship game. The defense looked sharp with gloves down and ready. Alli Bourget made a couple of good plays on third and Ewer was flawless behind the plate. Clukey pitched an excellent complete game giving up one hit and striking out 15.
    As the game progressed Anderson made many substitutions putting Panciera on first, Mariah Poulin on second, Seavey on third and Maci Poulin, Sprecker  and Sam Higgins in the outfield. London and Dow each got an at-bat.
    After the game the Eagles were given the Penquis League softball champion plague to take to SeDoMoCha. As the team traveled back to Dover-Foxcroft they were escorted into town with lights and sirens. Certainly a day to remember for the Eagles as they capped off an undefeated 2013 season with a championship.
