Six FA students recognized for their performance on National Spanish Examinations

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Congratulations to the six Foxcroft Academy students who attained national recognition for their excellent performance on the 2013 National Spanish Examinations. FA Spanish teacher Mirna Reyes-Henderson’s students earned a total of one silver medal, one bronze medal and four honorable mentions.

    “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, national director of the exams “Because the exams are the largest of their kind in the U.S. with more than 156,000 students participating in 2013.”
    The national Spanish examinations are administered each year in grade 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

   This year 22 students from Foxcroft Academy took the exam. Lydia Zepeda ‘13 outperformed 93 percent of exam takers to earn a silver medal in level 3 (native speakers) while fellow senior Jacob LaBree placed in the top 25 percent in level 2 to earn a bronze medal.
    The following students placed in the top 40 percent nationally and earned honorable mention recognition: Julian Zepeda ‘15 (level 2), Jennifer Clawson ‘16 (level 1), Joanna Panciera ‘15 (level 1) and Christopher Stewart ‘15 (level 1),
    “Students from Foxcroft Academy have a long history of high achievement on these exams,” said Reyes-Henderson, who has been teaching Spanish at Foxcroft Academy since 2006
    “This year’s group of students put forth another impressive performance,”  she said.
