Bell a top recruit for Husson University
BANGOR — Piscataquis Community High School senior Jessica Bell is part of a group of five incoming freshmen recruits for the Husson University women’s basketball team.
Bell is a multi-sport high school athlete readying to wear the Husson “H.” She is a three sport, four-year starter at PCHS. In soccer she was a striker for three years and in 2012 made a successful transfer to goalie. Bell holds a 1.8 goals against average which earned her PVC Second Team All-Conference honors. She was also selected to the PVC All-Academic Team and given the teams MVP award.
In basketball Bell earned herself PVC Second Team All Conference honors, averaging 10 points per game with 26 3-pointers in 13 games. She was the recipient of the Coaches Award in the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. This season she also received the Maine Principals Association Award.
Off the court Bell is ranked fifth in her class holding a 3.5 GPA. She is extremely active in the Student Council, National Honor Society, Civil Rights Team and Key Club. Bell has served as a school board representative as well as a Girl State attendee for her school.
Husson head coach Kissy Walker said about Bell, “Jess can light it up, she averages at least two 3-pointers a game which keeps teams on the lookout for her.”
After only graduating one senior from the 2012-13 squad Husson looks to add to the young but talented team. Joining Bell in the recruiting class is Chandler Guerrette (Presque Isle High School), Taylor Blood (Mattanawcook Academy), Morgan Merchant (Jonesport-Beals High School) and Rashell Saucier (of Washburn and a transfer from the University of Maine-Presque Isle). The five have all paid their initial deposits to attend Husson in the fall of 2013.
“We are very excited to have landed these five recruits, all five young women are quality student-athletes who we look forward to seeing contribute to the team,” Walker said. “We are hopeful to add even more recruits to this talented group.”
