GFWC/Miosac Club learns about the PRYMCA

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met Feb. 19 at Thayer Parkway with 13 members present. President Betsey Ryan opened the meeting and welcomed members. Leona Dow led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance.

    Secretary and treasurer’s reports were given. Barb Austin noted that she had sent sympathy cards to Marge Goodwin and Gerry Richardson on the loss of their husbands. Minnie McCormick reported on publicity.

    The Presidents Project, Newborns In Needs, report was given  by McCormick. She has purchased some diapers to fill gift bags for the project. Many item made by members were displayed.

    Dot Finnemore gave a report on the upcoming local art show to be held at Center Theater March 24 from 2-4 p.m. All are welcome. Members voted to take money from the treasury for the fruit and vegetable platters.

    The meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed birthday cake and ice cream served by McCormick and Dow.

    Arriving just in time for dessert, speaker Deb Boyd was introduced by Barbara Glover. Boyd is the executive director and CEO of the PRYMCA. She was at the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce prior to accepting the Y job. Boyd has much experience in marketing. She has made some good changes at the Y, trying to get some new programs that people are interested in and working on membership costs. She is trying hard to get the Y running smoothly again.

    The next meeting, an international dinner will be March 5 at 6 p.m. Members will bring foods from other ethnic backgrounds. This has been a favorite program.
