PRYMCA Waves all-stars compete at Bates
LEWISTON — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA Waves swim team all-star swimmers visited Bates College on Sunday, Feb. 3 to swim in the 12th annual YMCA All-Star meet. Seven PRYYMCA swimmers were invited to join forces with the rest of the North All-Stars from Y’s in Bangor, Ellsworth and Old Town to swim against the Southern and Central Y all-star teams. Swimmers with the two top times from all the dual Y meets during the season are invited to the all-star meet. The North All-Star Team took second place overall with a point total of 356. The Central All-Stars came in first with a point total of 438 while the South finished with 324 points.

All Waves swimmers swam in two individual events and a relay for the North All-Star Team. Waves with first-place finishes were Avery Carroll in the 50 free and Jenna Clukey in the 50 fly. Waves swimmers with first-place relay finishes were Jenna Clukey in the 11- and 12-year-old 200 free relay and Molly Foley in the 15 and older 200 free relay, setting an all-star meet record in this event with a time of 1:46.67. Waves swimmers with second-place finishes were Avery Carroll in the 100 free, Foley in the 200 free and Gabie Johnson in the 200 IM. Waves swimmers with personal best times at the meet were Jillian Annis, Carroll and Johnson.
The swimmer taking off the most time from their previous best time gets recognized as the “Biggest Loser.” The swimmer taking the most time off a previous best time at the all-star meet was Johnson. She took 6.54 seconds off the two events she swam, the 200 IM and the 100 breast.
The Waves team will participate in the Y State Championship the weekend of March 2-3 which will mark the end of this year’s Y swim season. All Waves swimmers will swim at the State Meet held at the University of Maine campus in Orono. All swimmers will be practicing hard until then.
