Dexter town councilor charged with operating under the influence

    DEXTER — A Dexter town councilor was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly operating under the influence. Denise Dinsmore, 63, was driving north on Route 7 at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday when a Dexter police officer checked on her parked vehicle.

     According to a police report, Dinsmore’s had her right turn signal on, but the officer saw the vehicle continue straight ahead.

    Dinsmore pulled over to the side of the road with her vehicle’s dome light on. When Dexter Police Officer Dana Gatcomb approached the parked vehicle to perform a safety check, the vehicle’s operator indicated she was trying to figure out how to turn off the dome light. At that point, the officer believed he smelled alcohol on her breath, according to Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle.

    Gatcomb conducted a field sobriety test on Dinsmore She was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of an intoxicating beverage which is a Class D misdemeanor. Dinsmore was later released after paying a $500 bond.
