Foxcroft Academy to host State Class C wrestling championships on Saturday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The snowstorm that struck the state of Maine Feb. 8-9 caused all the high school postseason sporting events for those two days to be pushed back to later dates.

On Saturday, state championships for all three classes of wrestling were scheduled to take place at the Augusta Civic Center, but instead Classes A, B and C will be held at three different sites across Maine. The Class C finals, which will include the local squads from Dexter Regional High School, Foxcroft Academy and Piscataquis Community High School, will now be held Saturday, Feb. 16 at Foxcroft Academy. The Class C championship starts at 9:30 a.m. and the action on the mats will continue through most of the day.

The Class C cheering championship at the Bangor Auditorium, which included the Eastern Maine championship team from Dexter Regional High School, was pushed back two days from Feb. 9 to Monday, Feb. 11. The Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championship was also moved back from Feb. 9 to Feb. 11, with the Foxcroft team competing about 48 hours later at the University of Maine.

Foxcroft’s swim teams also faced a postponement for the Penobscot Valley Conference finals.

The Pony boys were scheduled to swim on Feb. 11 with the girls in the pool on Feb. 12 (instead of Feb. 8-9).
