Piscatquis Regional YMCA Waves compete in Bangor swim meet

    BANGOR — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA Waves swim team visited the Bangor YMCA on Jan. 26 to compete against the Barracudas from Bangor and the DEFY team from Ellsworth in a close meet between the three teams. The Waves team had many swimmers missing but had some great individual swims. On Jan. 27 a couple of Waves swimmers participated in the Senior Meet also held at the Bangor Y.

COOL IN THE POOL — PRYMCA Waves swimmer Hunter Kemp of Guilford was among the team members taking part in a Jan. 26 meet at the Bangor Y against the home team and a squad from Guilford.

    Waves swimmers with first-place finishes were Wyatt Rayfield in the 50 free, Clay Carroll in the 200 IM and 200 breast, Avery Carroll in the 50 free, 200 IM, and the 200 back, Julia Annis in the 200 breast, Molly Foley 200 IM, 100 free and the 50 fly and Jenna Clukey in the 50 fly, 50 free and the 200 IM. Waves swimmers who picked up second-place finishes were Ateon Whitney, Chloe Waugh, Alec Oelschlegel, Clay Carroll, Abby Henderson and Triston Green.

    Waves swimmers with personal best times at the meets were Ian Blackstone, Clukey, Alyssa Boyd, Rachel Mullis, Foley, Avery Carroll, Clay Carroll, Green, Whitney, Henderson, Abrielle Kemp, Ava Rayfield, Oelschlegel, Diana Voter and Waugh.

    This week Waves swimmers combined took a whooping 87.32 seconds off all events. The swimmer taking off the most time from their previous best time gets recognized as the “Biggest Loser.” The swimmer taking the most time off a previous best time this Saturday was Henderson.

    She took the most time off a single event by taking an incredible 21.10 seconds off her 100 breaststroke. Honorable mentions for “Biggest Loser” were Rayfield for an also amazing 14.88 seconds off her previous best time in the 50 back and Boyd took 10.10 seconds off her 50 butterfly.

    Clukey broke the PRYMCA team record in the 11 and 12 age group for the 400 IM swimming it with a time of 5:17.18 breaking the previous record of 5:58.54. Clukey also broke the team record in the 200 fly with a time of 2:35, ahead of the previous time of 2:35.82.

    On Saturday, Feb. 2 the Waves were scheduled to have their last regular season meet at Old Town, swimming against teams from Old Town, MDI and Bangor.

    On Sunday, Feb. 3 seven Waves swimmers participated in the All Star Meet held at Bates College in Lewiston.

    Traveling to Lewiston to represent the Northern Maine Region were Gabie Johnson, Avery Carroll, Clay Carroll, Jill Annis, Julia Annis, Foley, and Clukey.
