PRYMCA Waves small, but mighty in Westbrook

    WESTBROOK — The USA swimming members of the Piscataquis Regional YMCA Waves swim team participated in a two day meet called Swim Your Own Age at the Davan Pool the weekend of Jan. 19-20. The eight member team made up of Molly Foley, Jillian Annis, Jules Annis, Jenna Clukey, Avery Carroll, Clay Carroll, Hunter Atkinson and Gabie Johnson competed against USA swim clubs from throughout New England. The Waves team is small but mighty with four of the eight winning trophies in one of the top six overall point total positions in their respective age groups.

    Although no Waves swimmer finished in the first-place spot in any event, Clukey finished second in the 50 free and 100 free, Johnson had a second-place finish in the 100 breast and Foley finished second in the 200 free. Waves swimmers with third-place finishes were Avery Carroll in the 100 free and the 200 IM, Jules Annis in the 200 IM and the 50 free and Clukey in the 100 IM, 200 free and the 100 fly.

    Swimmers placing in the top six overall point totals were Clukey in third place for 12-year-olds, Avery Carroll fifth place in the 14-year-olds, Jules Annis in fourth place and Molly Foley in sixth place in the 15 & older age group. Jillian Annis came close to a top sixth finish with enough points to finish tied for the seventh spot in the 13-year-old division.

    Waves swimmers with personal best times at the meet were Clukey, Atkinson, Jillian Annis, Jules Annis, Avery Carroll, Johnson and Clay Carroll. The swimmer taking off the most time from their previous best time gets recognized as the Biggest Loser. The swimmer taking the most time off a previous best time during this meet was Johnson. She took the most time off a single event by taking an amazing 5.15 seconds off her 100 free.

    Honorable mentions for Biggest Loser was Clukey for taking 3.09 seconds off her 100 back, while Jillian Annis took 3.04 seconds off her previous best time in the 200 free. The Biggest Loser for all events combined was also Johnson for taking a combined total of 12.73 seconds off three out of the six events.   Honorable mention for meet Biggest Loser was Jillian Annis for taking 8.75 seconds off four of the sixth events that she swam. Also, Jenna Clukey gets a honorable mention for swimming all six events with best times.  

    The Waves regular season is coming to a close with the last regular season meet coming up Feb. 2 in Old Town. The Y season will officially end at the huge state YMCA meet on March 2-3.
