GFWC/Miosac Club happenings
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The GFWC/Miosac Club met at Thayer Parkway Jan. 1 with 11 members present. President Betsey Ryan called the meeting to order and welcomed members who braved the cold. Dot Finnemore led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance and the Americans Creed.
Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call but gave no report. Treasurer Carol Kilpatrick was absent. Roxy McGlauflin read thank you notes from the Ronald McDonald House for the items the club presented them before Christmas and member Brenda Quiet for the flowers the club sent her after her fall.
Minnie McCormick reported on Newborns In Need (NIN) and is hoping to have an organizational meeting soon. She also will be meeting with Helping Hands with Heart (HHH) to explain NIN this week. HHH is a group made up of representatives for several local agencies concerning local health and services needs.
Ryan announced that the local art show committee will be meeting soon to get that going. The district art show will be held in Bangor this year on April 13.
Under new business, the Hot Air Balloon Festival was discussed. A vote followed and members decided it was too big a task for the club so they will not be participating.
A discussion of holding meetings earlier in the day for the winter months was tabled to give members time to think about it.
Following the meeting, McCormick instructed members as to how to make Valentines for the USO. Members cut cloth and paper hearts and decorated them with stickers making forty cards. It was a fun time. Some Girl Scout Troops will be making Valentines and will add them to be sent.
Delicious refreshments were served by Finnemore, McGlaufliln and Cathy Goodine
The next meeting will be Jan. 15 with hostesses Leona Dow and McGlauflin. Diane Leighton, program chair, will present someone from Penquis.
