6 years ago Paddlers zip down Sebec River in Three Rivers Kiwanis’ annual race Ten entrants took part in the Three Rivers Kiwanis Club of Milo/Brownville’s annual Sebec River Canoe Race on May 19. Paddlers put their craft in the water in Sebec Village and they raced down river to near the boat docks in downtown Milo.

It certainly makes sense in areas where anadromous fish species have been prevented from accessing important spawning and nursery habitat. 6 years ago Five-run fifth inning helps Foxcroft earn fifth victory of the season After visiting Mount Desert Island High School took its first lead of a May 5 Class B North softball Saturday matinee during the top of the fifth inning at 4-3, Foxcroft Academy responded with an even bigger inning. The Ponies scored five times in the bottom of the fifth and the five-run outburst helped the team hold on for the 8-4 victory to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season.

Registration is at Sebec Village Reading Room from 8:30 until 9:45 a.m. The race starts promptly at 10 a.m. as participants will travel to the boat launch in Milo.

6 years ago Tigers hold off Penquis’ seventh inning rally for first win of the season Trailing 4-2 to start the seventh inning of an April 27 Class C North softball contest, Penquis Valley High School nearly came back after scoring a run and then loading the bases with one out. A pitching change for the host Dexter Regional High School worked to perfection as Tiger freshman Avery Herrick recorded a strikeout and induced a ground ball out as the team held on for a 4-3 win and its first victory of the young season.
6 years ago Gaw to be formally inducted into Maine Baseball Hall of Fame The Maine Baseball Hall of Fame will welcome its new members during its 48th annual induction ceremony and banquet scheduled for Sunday, July 22, at the Holiday Inn By the Bay in Portland. Dave Gaw of Guilford, who was selected last year but was unable to attend, also will be inducted.
6 years ago D-F Kiwanis Piscataquis River Race postponed to May 26 Due to unsafe water levels on the Piscataquis River with a lot of debris flowing in the water, the 2018 Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Piscataquis River Race has been postponed from April 28 to Saturday, May 26. Plans are for the 46th annual event to also start at 10 a.m. on the new date -- with registration beforehand -- as paddlers will travel from King Cummings Park in Guilford down to Dover-Foxcroft across the West Main Street from Foxcroft Academy.

6 years ago Veteran Ellsworth baseball team shuts down Foxcroft After a trip to the Class B North semifinals last year, a veteran Ellsworth High School baseball team again is showing the characteristics of a contender early this spring. Coach Dan Curtis’ club rode the two-hit pitching of junior right-hander Conner Wagstaff and an offense that produced all of its runs with two outs to a 7-0 victory over Foxcroft Academy in a Penobscot Valley Conference matchup Saturday, April 28.
