University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry will offer two free webinars Thursday, May 21, in support of National Invasive Species Awareness Week. Invasive plant biologist Nancy Olmstead will teach “Invasive Plant Ecology and Identification” from 9–10 a.m. and “Invasive Plant Management” from noon–1 p.m.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension is launching a food preservation webinar series at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26. The weekly series continues through Oct. 27. 

Join the Piscatquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  on Wednesday, June 3 to learn about invasive plant ecology, impacts, identification and management with presenter Nancy Olmstead, invasive plant biologist from the Maine Natural Areas Program in the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.

The Center Theatre announced that it will be giving one side of the marquee over to congratulatory messages to Foxcroft Academy graduating seniors starting on Sunday, June 21. One hour slots can be reserved from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday the 21st through Friday the 26th.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the bean supper scheduled for Saturday, May 16 at the Sebec Reading Room has been canceled. The Milo Garden Club’s next regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 has been canceled.

The Center Theatre will be holding an online murder mystery party at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. The party, set in the 1920s, centers around a death in prohibition Chicago and is called “Murder, Mayhem, and Moonshine.”

The Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft will remain closed through May due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are beginning the planning process to reopen in June,” said TFL Director Greta Schroeder, who will provide more information as it becomes available.

University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a new eight-part video series for first-time gardeners. “A Victory Garden for ME” provides an overview of vegetable gardening, from how to get started and what to plant to tending and harvesting the home garden.

Thompson Free Library will host Mary Freeman, assistant professor of history at the University of Maine, live via Zoom at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 as the first speaker in a series celebrating Maine's Bicentennial.

The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District’s 2020 Trout Sale pick up will be held on Wednesday, May 20. Customers must pre-order and pay for all brook trout by Monday, May 18.
