A Ten Cent Whoopie Pie Book Sale will be held in the meeting room of the Thompson Free Library at 186 East Main Street. The sale runs Thursday, June 20 2-7 p.m.; Friday, June 21 9 a.m. to­ 5 p.m.; and Saturday, June 22 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds from this sale are for children's programs.

The Katahdin Valley Boys, one of Maine's most popular and respected bluegrass bands, return to the Wayside Theatre on Saturday, June 29 at 7 p.m.

The Guilford Memorial Library is pleased to be hosting local resident Dolores Curtis as she shares slides and stories from her recent travels to northern Italy. This free event is Wednesday, June 19 at 3 p.m.

An art show and reception will be from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 30 at the Millworks, LLC building at 16 Church Street. Featured artists are Wally Warren, Joe Kennedy and Nellie Kennedy. All three are long-time friends and neighbors living and producing art in Ripley.

The 2019 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival has expanded this year to include a new event at Dover True Value Hardware. The store will be hosting its first annual "Dover True Value Homeshow Expo" in the business parking lot from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

Come celebrate thriving farms at “Root Down: A Farm Viability Party” hosted by Maine Farmland Trust (MFT) at Ripley Farm on the Merrills Mills Road from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 27. Guests can take a tour of the farm, enjoy snacks from Spruce Mill Farm & Kitchen, a cash bar with local beer and wine from Bissell Brothers and wine from Oyster River Winegrowers, learn about MFT’s Farm Viability work to help farms thrive and hear what the farmers at Ripley Farm are doing to grow their business.

The Dover-Foxcroft Historical Society will be opening the Observer Building Museum for 2019 on the day of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival, Saturday June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Bangor Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded grants to several nonprofit organizations in eastern and northern Maine, including the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts in Dover-Foxcroft.

The annual event enables PCES pupils to participate in several workshops from over 30 possibilities thanks to 100 volunteers helping out at Arts Alive. Those taking part this year wore green T-shirts with a logo designed by sixth-grader Lena Pearson.

May 25-26 the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum hosted the 103rd Infantry World War I reenactment group with volunteers from Maine and New Hampshire. Many of the original members of the 103rd “Yankee Division” Infantry were from the Piscataquis County, including one young soldier from Monson who was killed in action.

On Wednesday, June 12 at 6 p.m. the Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter will be presenting a recent film based on the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

On the evening of Friday, May 31 visual and performing arts students of Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford presented their second annual combined Arts Cabaret. This year’s theme was “An Ocean Odyssey.”

Yoga instructor and Pine Tree Hospice volunteer Gayle Worden RYT, is offering free Yoga Nidra sessions for both professional and family caregivers in the community and for PTH volunteers as well. The sessions are about 45 minutes in length and are held at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church on West Main Street. The next session is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 15.

The Guilford Memorial Library will be hosting Professor Ed Rice as he leads a presentation about Louis Sockalexis, the first known Native American to play professional baseball. This free event is Wednesday, June 5 at 2 p.m.
