Seven Ponies and a Tiger run at regional X-C championships

BELFAST — The Foxcroft Academy boys cross country team ran at the 2016 Class B North championship on Oct. 29 at Troy Howard Middle School. The Ponies accumulated a score of 390 points to finish 13th in a field of 15 schools.

Senior William Casey was the first Foxcroft runner to cross the finish line. Casey covered the five kilometers in a time of 20 minutes, 15.27 seconds to place 67th out of 104 entrants.

Sophomore Nicholas Daneman was only seconds behind Casey as he came in 69th at 20:18.78. The third Pony runner was junior Kazuyuki Kawashima, who finished 83rd at 21:52.45. Senior Ethan Poland was right behind in 84th place at 22:08.74. Rounding out the team’s top five was junior Chenbin Yu, who was 102nd at 26:11.71.

Junior Long Bui also ran in the regional final for Foxcroft. Bui placed 103rd with a time of 26:52.67.

Pony junior Jordan Thomas ran in the girls’ B North championship. Thomas covered the course in 23:42.24, which put her 41st among 78 runners.

In the Class C North championship, William Strauch of Dexter Regional High School competed as an individual. Strauch ran the 3.1 miles in 19:09.86, and he finished in 24th place out of a field of 91 entrants.

By having one of the top 30 times in the race, Strauch earned a berth in next Saturday’s Class C championship. The state meets will also be held at Troy Howard Middle School.
