Road race news

Five residents of the region took part in the 36th annual Walter Hunt 3K on the Fourth of July from Brewer to Bangor. Gabriel Piquette, 17 of Dover-Foxcroft, covered the course in a time of 11 minutes, 6 seconds to finish 23rd out a field of 510 runners.

Stuart Hedstrom, 33 of Dover-Foxcroft, was 45th with a time of 11:39; Christopher Almy, 67 of Charleston, was 167th at 14:31; David Stanhope, 52 of Exeter, placed 232nd at 15:31; and coming in 390th was Sheshan Wagner (no age listed) of Exeter at 18:41.

In the L.L. Bean 10K on Independence Day in Freeport Maryanna Ray, 36 of Ripley, finished 97th out of 1,173 entrants with a time of 43:18. Darcie Sands, 38 of Dover-Foxcroft, placed 944th in 1:05.31.

On July 9 Cooper Nelson, 18 of Dover-Foxcroft, won the 5K Run to Benefit the Hudson Scholarship Fund. Nelson’s time of 17:21 was the best among 17 runners.

Rico Portalatin, 45 of Milo, ran in the Shipyard Old Port Half Marathon on July 9 in Portland, finishing sixth out of 2,880 entrants. Portalatin’s finish in the over 99th percentile came in a time of 1:20.26.

Philip Beckett, 37 of Exeter, ran in the Shipyard Old Port 5K. Beckett was 690th of 1,309 with a time of 31:11.7.
