Sangerville economic group meets Monday

SANGERVILLE — The Economic Development Committee of Sangerville will meet on Monday, June 13 in the Town Hall Community Room as 6:30 p.m. Andrew H. Hinkley, chief executive officer of Cornerstone Communications, will be the featured speaker.

The committee at its last meeting on May 9 discussed the assets and challenges facing Sangerville’s future economic development. The lack of widespread access to high speed Internet service was cited as a major hurdle. Hinkley has been at the forefront in bringing internet service to Piscataquis County. The committee is anxious to learn how the community can improve upon its internet access.

Other notable assets of the town are its recreation program, access to several bodies of water, health care access and the quality of life. The challenges were also enumerated and suggestions were made as to how the town can overcome, minimize and eliminate these obstacles through community action.

All meetings of the Economic Development Committee are open to everyone as there is no regular or appointed membership. Residents are urged to attend one, many, any or all meetings to informally discuss the future direction for the growth and development of the town to guide the Board of Selectmen over the next five years. Christian Rowell serves as chair and Diana Bowley serves as vice chair.

Future meetings will focus on the Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce and the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council and how they can work with Sangerville to strengthen its economy and business climate. Anyone with questions can call Sangerville Town Manager Ken Woodbury at 876-2808.
