Road race news

A pair of runners from the region took part in the Sugarloaf Marathon on May 15. Suzanne Carleo, 55 of Dover-Foxcroft, covered the 26.2 miles in a nettime of 4 hours, 17 minutes and 25 seconds to finish 479th out of a field of 662. Beatrice Russell, 47 of Ripley, was 594th at 4:51.32.

Ten area residents ran in the Sugarloaf 15K on the same day. Heather Gudroe, 38 of Dexter, was 81st in a field of 593 entrants with a time of 1:15.12. Danielle Vafiades, 33 of Dexter, finished soon after in 85th place with a time of 1:15.30.

The other seven were Corey Nickerson, 23 of Harmony, 163rd at 1:21.02; Peter Devine, 66 of Garland, 206th at 1:23.19; Kathleen Dixon-Wallace, 49 of Milo, 308th at 1:28.21; Tracy Glidden, 50 of Dexter, 316th at 1:28.55; Dawn Wintle, 39 of Dexter, 355th at 1:31.32; Jessica Gregory, 30 of Abbot, 374th at 1:32.37; Hillary Caruso, 38 of Dover-Foxcroft, 422nd at 1:37.09; and Lettie Nickerson, 52 of Harmony, 462nd at 1:40.59.

On May 21 Maryanna Ray, 36, of Ripley ran in the Patriot 5K in the Cumberland County town of Gray. Ray’s time of 21:26 was good for 61st place in a field of 720 runners.
