Kiwanis’ 44th Piscataquis River Race

GETTING READY TO RACE — Entrants in the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club’s 44th annual Piscataquis River Race get ready for the start on the morning of April 23 near King Cummings Park in Guilford. This year’s race featured nearly 100 participants paddling about 9.5 miles to the finish line across West Main Street from Foxcroft Academy. Those making the journey competed in 17 different classes, sent on their way via staggered starts.

FASTEST THROUGH THE WATER — The Bob Darling Memory Trophy, named for a past club president and long-time race chair, is presented to the fastest kayak and canoe in the Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club’s annual Piscataquis River Race. Darling’s wife Doris bestowed the honors at the 44th annual race on April 23 with Ben Randall, right, paddling his kayak in 53 minutes, 50 seconds and Lori and Barry Dana, left, earning the top canoe time in 1 hour and 2 seconds.
