FA track starts the season

WINSLOW — The Foxcroft Academy outdoor track and field team began the 2016 season by taking part in a three-team meet against Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference member schools Winslow and Spruce Mountain of Jay on April 15. The Pony boys finished second with 66 points, and the girls from Foxcroft were third with a score of 41 points.

Seven first-place performances lead Foxcroft. Zachary Caron had the top heights in both the high jump and pole vault at 5 feet, 10 inches and 9-00, and Brandon Brock won the shot put and javelin with respective throws of 38-09 and 132-11.

Evan Chadbourne had the day’s fastest time in the 100 at 12.20 seconds. Senior Cooper Nelson won the 400 at 56.45 seconds and he ran the second leg of the winning 4×400 relay team. Gabe Piquette, Nelson, Blaine Robinson and Chadbourne combined for a time of 3:51.85.

Placing second for Foxcroft was Nelson in the 200 at 25.57 seconds; Piquette in both the 400 and 800 at 1:01.29 and 2:25.57; the 4×100 relay at 50.27 seconds; the 4×400 relay (Hunter Giacomuzzi, Paul Birtwistle, Gabriel Chambers and Jacob Diamond) at 10:59.83; and Max Santagata in the high jump at 5-02.

Coming in third in the high jump was Jacob Diamond at 5-02. Brock was fourth in the discus with a distance of 87-01.

In the girls’ meet, Avery Nelson finished first in the discus at exactly 75-feet. She also came in second in the javelin at 71-03.

Renee Smith was second in both the shot and discus with respective throws of 23-08 and 65-06, and she placed fourth in the javelin at 71-00. Michelle Smith finished third in the javelin at 71-02 and she came in fourth in both the shot and discus at 22-10 and 55-05.

Jennifer Clawson was her team’s top performer on the track. She was runner-up in both the 400 and 800 with times of 1:14.20 and 2:56.74.
