SPELLING WITH THE STATE’S BEST

SeDoMoCha Middle School seventh-grader Madeline Taylor represented the region as the Piscatauqis County champion at the annual Maine State Spelling Bee on March 19 at the University of Southern Maine in Portland.

Taylor finished in the bee’s top four, with one of her words being “madeline” — a type of French cookie. Syra Gutow of Castine won the competition to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in the Washington, D.C.-area.
