Focus Maine and Federal contracting at PCEDC meeting

MONSON — Join the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) for the first quarterly meeting of 2016. PCEDC members will meet at Spring Creek BBQ, in Monson on Monday, March 14 from 4-7 p.m. The evening’s focus will be on federal contracting and in learning more about Focus Maine.

Please register online at http://conta.cc/1XOQe08 . The registration deadline is Friday, March 11.

James Pineau, senior area manager with the Small Business Administration (SBA) will talk about federal contracting opportunities including the HUBZone Program. Federal contracting isn’t just for defense contractors … the government has a diverse purchasing policy. If someone can think of it, they most likely purchase it. This is a chance to hear more about opportunities and resources for local businesses and how the HUBZone program works.

In addition, attendees will be hearing from Andrea Maker regarding Focus Maine. Focus Maine seeks to be a catalyst for creating high-quality jobs within a few traded sectors — which means a dollar of business created in a traded sector company tends to be a dollar that doesn’t already exist in the local economy and in turn will create a more robust economy for all. Their general purpose is to strengthen and revitalize opportunity and prosperity in Maine by accelerating the creation of quality jobs within a few select, traded sectors that have high growth potential, based on global growth projections and Maine’s competitive advantages in those sectors.

Focus Maine has been in existence for 18 months and is comprised of business leaders with proven success in their respective fields.
