Center Theatre presents one-act play festival

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre and Slightly Off-Center Players are presenting a weekend of one-act plays Friday, Feb. 26 through Sunday, Feb. 28. The collection of family-friendly plays feature performances by two area schools as well as actors of all ages from the community.

Wendy Voter, president of the Slightly Off-Center Players Community Theater Group and organizer of the festival, is looking forward to seeing the shows. “The plays coming to the Center Theatre are a great demonstration of the talent we have all around us,” she said. “Not only the plays from Foxcroft Academy and Piscataquis Community Secondary School , but there are also two plays written and directed by local authors, and of course all the actors are from the area as well. I’m hoping the community comes out to support this local talent.”

Performing in the festival will be students from Foxcroft Academy performing “Cheating Death”, written by Kamron Klitgard and directed by Derrick Buschmann; students from Piscataquis Community Secondary School performing “The Great Pandamonium”, written by Pat Cook and directed by Julie Harrington; “Shakespeare: A Small Rewrite” interpreted by David Murray and Dan Sharrow; “The Forlorn Unicorn”, written by Rachelle Atwater and directed by Chelle Atwater and Ryan Schaffer; and “Remembering A River Runs Through It” by Norman Maclean, edited and directed by Daniel Linden.

“There really is something for everyone,” Voter said. “Comedy, action, adventure, and some very touching moments.”

The festival will be presented Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., Saturday the 27th at 2 p.m. and Sunday the 28th at 2 p.m. Due to scheduling conflicts, “The Forlorn Unicorn” and “The Great Pandamonium” will not be presented at the Sunday production. Admission to all the productions is by donation.
