SANGERVILLE — A small earthquake has been reported in Maine for the fourth time this month, officials said.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude-2.2 earthquake was reported around 8:30 a.m. Friday in the Sangerville area.

The USGS said Friday’s earthquake was not related to a swarm of microearthquakes reported in Washington County earlier this month.

One of those earthquakes was measured at 2.9 and the other at 3.3. Early Thursday, an earthquake measuring at 2.5 was reported in Franklin County.

Tremors of 2.5 or less on the earthquake magnitude scale, are “usually not felt but can be recorded by seismograph,” according to UPSeis, an educational site for budding seismologists. Anything registering a 2.5 to 5.4 is “often felt, but only causes minor damage.”
