Skeleton Crew to host ‘All About Wellness’ presentation

By Beth Ranagan

DEXTER — There are many ways to manage osteopenia and osteoporosis. Since March 2015, when the Skeleton Crew began, those attending the group’s meetings have learned about good food choices, herbs, supplements, and various exercise programs to maintain and/or improve bone density. All of these ideas, put into practice together, have helped some members achieve their goals to maintain or boost bone scan results. That is encouraging news.

ALL ABOUT WELLNESS All About Wellness practitioners Gil and Bonnie Levesque will be at the Feb. 5 meeting of the Skeleton Crew, taking place at noon at the Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter.

Others may be finding improvement more difficult and may need to look further while still maintaining a more natural approach to the solution. Practitioners Gil and Bonnie Levesque at All About Wellness in Dover-Foxcroft, encourage clients to consider looking deeper within as well as without as they work towards healing. All techniques and practices aim toward balancing the body systems and incorporating mind, body and spirit elements as well.

One technique used is the Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique (BEST). It “is a non-forceful, hands-on procedure to help reestablish the full healing potential of the body,” according to Gil Levesque, who delivers the treatment. Life’s stressors may be interfering with healing and the body’s homeostasis (balance). When specific pressure points are touched as the client thinks of the interfering stressor, the body and mind work together toward healing and balance. Avoiding distressing negative thoughts and remaining positive are an integral part of the BEST treatment program. The BEST program also stresses good diet, exercise, adequate rest, avoidance of smoke-filled environments, and avoidance of coffee or alcohol.

Essential oils are used as part of the holistic approach at the Levesque’s center. Practitioner Bonnie Levesque delivers aroma touch treatment as part of the center’s overall goal of body balance and healing. Application of essential oils, such as peppermint, orange or lavender, to the back and feet helps to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. Following an essential oil treatment, a client should possess a healthy immune response and a sense of well-being and balance. The procedure is calming and improves the quality of life for those with chronic conditions.

Reiki, an integrative spiritual healing practice, is delivered by Gil Levesque, a Reiki master. It is a hands-on healing procedure to increase the life-force energy that flows through us. If our life-force energy is low, then we will get sick or feel stress. Reiki treatment promotes recovery, can relieve pain, and gives a feeling of radiance.

Attend the Friday, Feb. 5 Skeleton Crew meeting at noon at the Abbott Memorial Library in Dexter to learn more as the Levesques tell about their healing practices that apply to osteoporosis and overall wellness and healing. Demonstrations will be provided as well as a light, bone-healthy luncheon.

The Skeleton Crew is dedicated to the support and education of those with bone issues. Call Liz, the librarian, at 924-7292 for meeting information.
