Rep. Higgins announces run for re-election
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Norman Higgins (R-Dover-Foxcroft) announced that he is a candidate for re-election for state representative for District 120, representing the communities of Atkinson, Brownville, Dover-Foxcroft, Lakeview Plantation, Medford, Milo and the Unorganized Territory of Orneville.
Higgins was an educator for 32 years in SAD 4. He is a former member of the Dover-Foxcroft Board of Selectmen and a director of Mayo Regional Hospital. He is a trustee of Foxcroft Academy and the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church.
Higgins is currently a member of the 127th Maine Legislature and serves on the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. As a member of the committee, working together with members of both parties, he sponsored successful legislation that removed a 30 percent tax on High Speed Internet and created a vehicle for municipal planning grants for local communities to evaluate broadband status and needs for the future. He was successful in developing legislation that restructured the Community-Based Renewable Energy Program that created an opportunity for the Mayo Mill Hydro/Solar Project to be funded.
“While we face a challenging future in our communities the key to unlocking opportunities for job creation, educational programs, telemedicine and in-home care for seniors is to access the High Speed Internet line that runs through our county,” Higgins said.
