BRADFORD — An incident in which emergency personnel went to a car crash early Friday morning on Route 11 but then found no one there is being investigated by the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

The wreckage of a Buick Park Avenue was discovered about 5:30 a.m. near the Piscataquis County line, prompting a search for victims that authorities worried might have been ejected or were otherwise injured in the vicinity, Detective Bill Flagg of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said on Dec. 11.

“The damage was extensive,” Flagg said.

Flagg said that two people who were in the car when it crashed left the accident without notifying police. He said they were later located after they were taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft by private vehicle.

He declined to identify the pair because the investigation is ongoing.

“Nothing will be released until more investigation is done when I come back to work on Monday,” Flagg said in an email on Dec. 12.
