Piquette, Clawson pace Ponies

PVC cross country championships

LINCOLN — The Foxcroft Academy cross country teams will enter Saturday’s North regional championships coming off middle-of-the-pack finishes at the Penobscot Valley Conference meets.

The North regionals will be held at the Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast, with the girls Class B race at 12:10 p.m. followed by the “B” boys race at 12:45.

The Foxcroft boys squad placed fourth in the PVC large-school race with 108 points, trailing champion Caribou (20), Old Town (79) and Mount Desert Island (80) of Bar Harbor during the meet held on a 3.0-mile course at Mattanawcook Academy.

Senior Gabe Piquette was Foxcroft’s top individual finisher, placing seventh overall with a time of 17 minutes, 51.91 seconds. Classmate Cooper Nelson was 15th in 18:49.31 while junior Liam Casey (29th), freshman Nicholas Daneman (31st) and senior Paul Birtwistle (32nd) rounded out the Ponies’ scoring contingent.

Chathu Karunasiri of Caribou was the PVC large-school boys individual champion in 17:00.92.

William Strauch, a junior running individually for Dexter Regional High School, placed 18th in the small-school division in 19:05:80.

The Foxcroft girls team placed sixth in its large-school race with 160 points.

Ponies’ senior Jen Clawson placed fifth among large-school competitors with a time of 21:16.94, with Jenna Clukey (33rd), Alice Russo (43rd), Virginia Macomber (45th) and Sujeong Kim (46th) also scoring for the Ponies.

Mount Desert Island won the girls large-school team title, while Amanda Boyd of John Bapst of Bangor posted the best individual time in that division with a 20:16.24 clocking.
