DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Foxcroft Academy girls soccer team scored its first victory in nearly five years Monday, knocking off top-ranked Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor, 4-2, in a Class B North battle.

The win was the first for the Ponies since an Oct. 19, 2010, victory over Lee Academy, according to second-year head coach Chris Wesley.

“We’ve been making a lot improvements and have been right on the cusp of getting over the edge and (Monday) we finally were able to finish some goals off,” he said.

Foxcroft, which had been outscored 15-1 in its first three matches this season, battled MDI to a 1-1 halftime stalemate before breaking the match open with three second-half goals.

Jenna Clukey and Grace Francis each scored a goal for the Ponies with Clukey adding two assists and Francis chipping in one. Grace Bickford and Abby Simpson each contributed one goal apiece for 1-3 Foxcroft.

Ally Bender and Opal Curless each scored for the 3-1 Trojans and Curless added an assist.

Foxcroft goalie Kiara Prescott made 12 saves on 17 shots while MDI goalie Brigette Olearcek had 11 saves on 17 shots.

Foxcroft, now ranked eighth in Class B North, returns to action with home matches today against Dexter and Saturday against Piscataquis of Guilford.
