Martin honored at UMaine

ORONO — Paige B. Martin, of Dover-Foxcroft and a 2010 Foxcroft Academy graduate, is this year’s winner of the Carolyn E. Reed Honors Thesis Fellowship at the University of Maine.
Martin, who hopes to become a physician, is pursuing a thesis titled “The Effect of Cataract Surgery on Depression and Vision-Related Quality of Life in an Elderly Population.” By combining real-life clinical experience in a Maine opthalmologist’s office with research in psychology, Martin hopes to explore and understand both the physical and mental health elements of treating patients. The Reed Fellowship is awarded annually and Fellows receive a stipend of up to a $2500 to support their thesis work.
Martin also has been awarded an internship for the summer at MDI Biological Laboratories in Bar Harbor. She will be involved with research using zebra fish as models for the brain.
