Public Health Coalition
Offers free Cooking Matters pop-up store tour
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Public Health Coalition is offering a free educational Cooking Matters pop-up store tour for adults on Sept. 1 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the Piscataquis Room at Mayo Regional Hospital.
Participants will be guided through a “mock” store tour to gain a variety of practical shopping skills, enjoy taste tests and learn about new recipes. Shopping skill topics include buying fruits and vegetables on a budget, comparing unit prices to find bargains, reading and comparing food labels, identifying whole grains and much more.
The store pop-up tour is a portable version of Cooking Matters at the Store that is held outside of the grocery store. This eliminates many barriers including those pertaining to disabilities, time, transportation, translation and weather. After completing the session, participants will receive a free $10 gift card to the grocery store to purchase ingredients for a healthy meal, a free reusable grocery bag and a free workbook full of tasty recipes and simple tips on buying healthy, low-cost foods. These items will be available while supplies last.
Registration is required. To save a seat, please contact Krystle Parkman at 564-4159 or kparkman@mayohospital.com.
