August Piscataquis Ponoma Grange events
Thursday, Aug. 6 will be a Piscataquis Pomona Grange Meeting with Fifth Degree instruction at the Garland Grange. Friday, Aug. 7 Valley Grange will have a business meeting starting at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Jim Annis at 564-0820. Fall projects and calendar will be an important part of the discussion. The Grange Hall is located at 172 Guilford Center Road in Guilford.
Saturday, Aug. 8 Parkman Grange is hosting a Homesteader’s Swap from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Grange Hall located on Highway 150 . This is an opportunity to buy, sell or trade farm, garden and home-crafted goods. Vendors are wanted; to reserve a space call Deb 277-3015 or go to Facebook “Parkman Grange”.
Aug. 8 Wayside Grange hosts a chicken pie supper from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Live dinner music will be featured. Menu includes potatoes, veggies, salad, ice cream cakes and pretty good coffee. Friday, Aug. 14, Garland Grange features a historic talk and book signing beginning at 4 p.m. Chris Hadsel from Curtains without Borders will discuss Garland Grange’s historic Grand Drape as featured in her book “Suspended Worlds”. Aug. 14, Garland Grange hosts a barbecue public supper from 5 until 7 p.m. Menu includes barbecue pork, chicken and beef, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, pasta salad, homemade bread and desserts. Takeout is available. Also during supper, educators from the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market and Healthy Communities will provide information on the use of SNAP or EBT benefits to purchase local healthy foods. Saturday, Aug. 15 all area Granges are invited to participate in the Piscataquis Pomona Grange Installation of Officers being hosted by Garland Grange. Installation will be conducted by State Grange Master Vicki Huff and her team. A paid chicken pie supper will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the installation program at 7. Area Granges are encouraged to contact Bemis at 924-4123 or Boomsma at 343-1842 with information regarding estimated attendance.
Saturday, Aug. 22 Wayside Theatre presents the Katahdin Valley Boys at the Wayside Grange Theatre at 7 p.m. The Katahdin Valley Boys is one of Maine’s most popular and award-winning bluegrass bands. Their repertoire of traditional and contemporary bluegrass and Gospel music features tight harmonies and smooth solos. Influences include Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Blue Highway and the Lonesome River Band.
