Piscataquis River Festival on Saturday
GUILFORD — The annual Piscataquis River Festival returns on Saturday, July 25 with a day of events in the downtown area. The 2015 festival features a theme tying in with the classic film and novel “The Wizard of Oz.”
This year’s Piscataquis River Festival begins with breakfast served at the Guilford United Methodist Church from 7-9 a.m.

PISCATAQUIS RIVER FESTIVAL PARADE — A float for Pirate Rec travels through downtown Guilford during a past Piscataquis River Festival. The 2015 procession starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 as area businesses and organizations will create floats tying in with theme relating to “The Wizard of Oz.”
Friends of Community Fitness has a pair of road races, with a Kids Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. and then the Fitness 5K beginning at 8:45 a.m. with registration for both prior to the starting guns.
The Piscataquis River Festival parade through town along the Yellow Brick Road starts at 9:30 a.m. as local businesses, organizations and others create their best floats to tie in with “The Wizard of Oz.” The procession will also include the Shrine clowns.
Live music with Dime Store Heroes is scheduled from 1 to 5 p.m. on the Piscataquis River Festival stage.
Table manners will not be required at the 2 p.m. pie eating contest, with registration beforehand at 1:45 p.m.
Getting one’s ducks in a row will be quite handy at the 3 p.m. rubber duck race. The first blue, pink and yellow ducks to cross the finish line will each win the duck’s owner a cash prize. Duck tickets, 250 of each of the three colors will be sold, are available at Goulette’s IGA, the Guilford Town Office and Key Bank.
Live music with Out of the Blue is scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. on the Piscataquis River Festival stage.
Once the sun sets, a fireworks display over Guilford will take place at night.
