Maine author to speak at NAMI

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On Monday, June 22 at 5:30 p.m., author Christina Solak-Goodwin will speak about bipolar disorder recovery. The event will be held at Mayo Regional Hospital in the Sebec Room.

Solak-Goodwin has been enthusiastically received when she has spoken in Piscataquis County in the past. Her topic is personal. Having successfully learned to live with the disorder, she has embraced a full life that includes marriage, family, a nursing career and authorship. She will tell about her journey and reveal how she is able to do all that she does despite a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

Her books “Battling Bipolar Disorder: A Memoir” and “Diary of a Mental Patient: A Journey Toward Acceptance” will be available for purchase and signing at the time of the event. Within “Battling Bipolar Disorder” the author describes her experiences leading to diagnosis including descriptions of hospitalizations, suicide attempts and medication trials.

Her second book chronicles her year-long struggle to accept that she has a lifelong mental illness that is treatable but not curable. She describes ways to find purpose and meaning in her life. Her story is an inspiration to others working to live in the recovery period of any mental illness.

This engaging presentation is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact nami.picataquis@gmail.com or call 924-7903.
