Volunteers needed for Maine Whoopie Pie Festival
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is right around the corner on June 27. Along with thousands of visitors, artists, crafters, food, fun, live music and over 10,000 whoopie pies there will also be over 100 volunteers.
“We couldn’t do the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival without our volunteers,” said Patrick Myers, the festival organize. “Our volunteers help with everything starting with setup at 5 a.m. right through to clean up after the festival. Along the way volunteers can help with every aspect of the festival. They work in the entrance gates, at the kid’s rides, picking up tokens from the bakers, working the whoopie pie eating contest and so much more. We need help with everything!”
As the festival has grown so has the number of volunteers. In the early years, Myers says the festival operated with just 20 or 30 volunteers. That number soon grew to over 50 and now it’s close to 100. Myers says that volunteer shifts are usually only three or 4 four hours long and after that volunteers can enjoy the festival for free.
He said, “It’s the least we can do for our volunteers. They get a free entrance pass and some tokens for free Whoopie Pie Samples. Volunteers also get to buy a festival T-shirt at a deep discount.” But Myers said the main motivation for volunteering at the Whoopie Pie Festival is supporting the Center Theatre. The Center Theatre created the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival and it remains the theatre’s single largest fundraiser.
