Moose River race to be held June 13

ROCKWOOD — The Friends of Moosehead Lake present the annual Moose River Canoe and Kayak Race on Saturday, June 13, an 8-mile course that starts at the Brassua Lake boat launch and finishes at the Kineo docks in Rockwood.

The race is Part of the Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization (MAKRO) flat water points series

Entrants will paddle Brassua Lake and the Moose River in Rockwood, mostly flat water, with one portage at the Bras-sua Dam. There are two Class II rapids on the Lower Moose River.

There are special classes for wooden rib and plank canoes in memory of Fred Reckards, custom canoe bidder. There are also special classes for a shorter junior course.

Registration is $15 per person. There is no charge for Greenville students or members of the Greenville High School Class of 2015.

Sign in from 8-10 a.m. at the Rockwood Community Cen-ter. Fees include trophies from Shaw and Tenney and a barbe-cue at the finish line. Race starts at 11 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit benches and improvements to the Kineo docks in memory of Tunney King Sr.
