Maine Senators welcome international game wardens

 AUGUSTA – On Friday, May 8, Sen. Paul Davis (R-Sangerville), Sen. David Burns (R-Whiting) and Sen. Stan Gerzofsky (D-Brunswick) welcomed game wardens and wildlife experts from eleven different countries to the state house.

INTERNATIONAL VISIT – Sen. Davis Burns, center, from left; Sen. Stan Gerzofsky and Sen. Paul Davis welcomed a group of international game wardens to the state house last week.

 The visit was organized by the World Affairs Council of Maine under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and is part of the group’s wider Anti-Poaching and Anti-Trafficking project. In addition to visiting Maine, the group spent time in Washington, D.C. and Florida and will visit California, and Seattle.

 During their time at the State House the international group received a tour of the building and an explanation of Maine’s legislative process from the Senators. While in Augusta, the group also visited the Bureau of Warden Service at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. They also visited Acadia National Park while in Maine.

 Davis, Chair of the Legislature’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, commended the group for their dedication to wildlife conservation efforts.

 “Here in Maine, we know how valuable our wildlife is to our way of life. I was pleased to have the opportunity to speak with these knowledgeable people from all over the world and learn about their conservation efforts and the impact of wildlife on their regions,” said Davis.
