DOVER-FOXCROFT — The four classes of kindergarteners at the SeDoMoCha Elementary School had some special visitors on the afternoon of Friday, May 8 as many of the students had their mothers, and/or some other family members, stop by for a Mother’s Day Tea in the school cafeteria.
“I believe it is our fourth year welcoming moms in for tea,” said teacher Erica Tapley in-between greeting the guests of honor before their children came into the cafeteria. “All of the classes did little projects and artwork for their moms. It’s a nice time to just sit and enjoy a little snack and talking with their kids about what they do.”
Over a dozen tables were decorated with flowers and white tablecloths, placemats and plates, cups and silverware for the tea, organized by class with settings for each student and their guest. Tapley said iced tea and water and slices of cake would be served to the mothers and youngsters.
As the visitors came into the cafeteria about 10 middle school students stood off to the side by the table with the cake and drinks. “This is the first year with our eighth-grade helpers,” Tapley said. “They are going to be our waiters and waitresses. They are going to ask the moms and the students too what they want to drink and if they would like a piece of cake.”
The kindergartners had a few minutes to play in the adjacent gym as final tea preparations were made and the guests took their seats. Speaking through a microphone Tapley told the guests, “Thank you very much for coming, we are very fortunate to have a great turnout every year.” She added, “We have a beautiful cake which was graciously donated by Sam’s Club.”
The kindergartners then entered the room, finding their mothers at the tables. “Come on in guys and find your mom and give them a great big hug and say ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’” Tapley said.
In several weeks the SeDoMoCha Elementary kindergarten will host a game day for dads in recognition of Father’s Day.
