CHAOS IN THE FAIRY TALE FOREST — Alice Myers, left, as Little Red Riding Hood, and Elora Kares, portraying Snow White, conclude a scene from “Chaos in the Fairy Tale Forest” for the RSU 68 school board during a May 5 meeting. The two, a third-grader and homeschool student respectively, will be part of the SeDoMoCha Stageworks Jr. production on Friday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at the SeDoMoCha School in Dover-Foxcroft.
“Little Red Riding Hood (portrayed by third-grader Alice Myers) is the main character on the way to her grandmother’s house, and all of these different fairy tale characters pop up,” said grade 2 teacher David Murray, who is directing “Chaos in the Fairy Tale Forest.” “It’s really chaotic at the end, all of the different characters are on the stage.”
Murray said the middle school level SeDoMoCha’s Stageworks performs student plays, and several months ago he approached Principal Julie Kimball to look into possibility of a spring production at the elementary level. With the go-ahead granted for the one-act play, Murray said students in grades 2-4 had the opportunity to perform in “Chaos in the Fairy Tale Forest”.
Auditions were held and soon a cast of 16 was selected to begin rehearsals three times a week after school. “A lot of them had never done plays before so it is great for them to have an opportunity here,” Murray said, adding that several other cast members have acted before in productions at the Center Theatre.
“The important thing is the SeDoMoCha School Organization is funding it, they are paying for the royalties and the books,” Murray said about the play written by Geoff Moyer. “We are hoping through admission, which is by donation, we can pay some of it back so we can do it again.”
