MILO — Dexter Regional High School put 11 runs on the scoreboard, spread out over four innings, which ended up being more than enough in the team’s May 1 win at regional rival Penquis High School. Tiger senior Jacob Sinclair tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts as he and the defense gave up just one run in the victorious effort to improve the team to 3-1 in 2015 and drop the Patriots to 0-2.

LEAP AT FIRST — Dexter senior Adam Wintle snags a throw from across the diamond to make the out at first during the home half of the opening inning of a game at Milo on May 1. The Tigers improved to 3-1 at the start of the season with an 11-1 victory at regional rival Penquis.

Dexter scored what would turn out to be the winning run in the team’s first trip to the plate as senior Brandon Young stepped into the batter’s box with the bases loaded. Young sent a pitch from Penquis junior Noah Allen into shallow rightfield as Tiger senior Matthew Bartlett and sophomore Brayden Miller were both driven in for the 2-0 advantage.
Three more runs came in the top of the fourth. Sinclair helped his cause on the mound by doubling to leftfield for a pair of RBIs and he then came home on a fielding error to put Dexter ahead 5-0.

KING OF THE MOUND — Senior Jacob Sinclair tossed a complete game for Dexter, striking out eight batters in seven innings as he and the Tiger defense gave up just one run.

In the sixth a Sinclair single dropped into leftfield enabled Miller to score and gave the Dexter pitcher his third RBI of the afternoon. He then swiped both second and third base with Young at the plate, and Sinclair scored Tiger run No. 7 on a throwing error.
With the team up 7-1 in the seventh, Dexter had the game’s largest offensive outburst by scoring four times in this trip to the plate. Freshman Jacob Bickford scored on a wild pitch and Zachary White came home on a fielder’s choice to make the contest 9-1.
Young ended the day by reaching base in all five of his plate appearances and he totaled a game-high four RBIs. In the seventh he singled to rightfield to drive in Bartlett and Miller for the respective 10th and 11 runs.
Penquis got on the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth. Allen led off with a double that landed in leftfield and rolled back to the fence. A balk then moved Allen to third and 90 feet away from homeplate. Junior Chris Johnson followed by finding a hole in the left side of the infield where he sent the ball through onto the grass of the outfield to drive in Allen.
The two teams are scheduled to play again in Dexter on Monday, May 18 at 4:30 p.m.
