Cora V. Downs

    SEBEC – Cora V. Downs, 91, wife of the late William Downs, Jr., passed away April 14, 2015, at Hibbard Nursing Home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born April 4, 1924, in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of John and Laura (Schumaker) Stull.

    She was raised on a ranch in New Haven, WY. She later moved to Cheyenne, where she worked at Fort Warren. She met and married Bill Downs while he was stationed there. They attended Black Hills Teacher’s College in Spearfish, SD, and after graduation, they moved to Sebec. She taught school for many years at the Harlan A. Ladd School in Sebec.
    Mrs. Downs is survived by a son, William Downs III and his wife, Mary, of Sebec; a granddaughter, Katherine A. Durrell of Portland; a sister, Dorothy Buller of Wichita, KS; a sister-in-law, Shirley Holbrook of New Vineyard; and several nieces and nephews.
    Cora’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Hibbard Nursing Home for the kind and compassionate care she was given while she was there.
    A family service with burial will be held at the Downs Cemetery, Sebec, later in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
