Morrison and Nelson both place second at state track meet

    LEWISTON — A pair of Foxcroft Academy athletes came in second in their respective events at the 2015 Class B state indoor track and field championships on Feb. 16 at Bates College.
    Senior Fern Morrison had the day’s second best time in the 400, with the Pony running a time of 1 minute, 1.13 seconds. Morrison trailed only the time of 1:00.07 turned in by Orono High School sophomore Rebecca Lopez-Anido.

    Morrison placed in her other event, running a time of 2:26.97 to finish fourth in the 800. Morrison finished her high school indoor track career by placing in the top six in the 800 in all four of her seasons with the Ponies.
    Between the two events Morrison tallied 12 points, which placed Foxcroft 14th out of 28 teams at the Class B championship.
    In the boys’ competition, Foxcroft junior Cooper Nelson had the second fastest mile time. Nelson ran the event in 4:37.77, trailing only the 4:36.01 for Waterville High School senior Chris Cote.
    Senior Peter Boyer also placed for the Ponies. He came in seventh in the shot put, throwing a top distance of 41 feet, 9 inches. Boyer and Nelson’s performances equaled nine points, which also put Foxcroft 14th in a field of 29 schools.
    The Ponies were represented in several other events. Boyer, sophomore Jason Eubanks and seniors Sebastian Zepeda and Justin Diamond were ninth of 21 teams in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:41.12. Diamond came in 12th in the 200 at 24.82 seconds.
    The 4×800 relay squad, comprised of seniors Noah Simpson, Kelly Erickson, Nathnael Feleke and junior Gabe Piquette, placed 12th out 19 teams with a time of 9:52.36. Nelson was 15th in the 800 at 2:25.97.
