PRYMCA announces New Year’s Challenge
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA is proud to host its New Year’s Weight Loss Challenge and encourages friends, family and coworkers to form teams and get involved. Chris Wesley, the Y’s program director, is excited about the program, “We have some fun prizes for the competitors, but the best reason to sign up is how good you’ll feel!”
Teams of four friends, family or co-workers will designate a team captain and take part in the challenge from Jan. 19 through March 16. The teams will be guided through an eight-week experience by a YMCA program coordinator that will offer tips for success and regular motivation and encouragement.
Team members do not need to be members of the PRYMCA. To be eligible for the team competition all members need to weigh-in at the beginning and end of the competition. The winning team will be determined by the percentage of weight lost by the entire team with each member of the winning team receiving a 3-month Y membership – a $450 value. The Y will help individuals who would like to participate to connect with others and form teams.
Weekly prizes will also be awarded to the individual with the greatest weight loss for that week. To be eligible for a weekly prize, individuals will need to come to the Y to weigh-in each Wednesday between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Weekly prizes include gas cards, gift cards, YMCA passes, and more. However, the real prize for the challenge is the time spent investing in your own health which will earn you rewards all year long. Thanks to Mayo Regional Hospital, the Y will be using a professional ‘Doctor’s Office’ beam scale for weigh-ins to guarantee accuracy.
New this year, we are excited to offer weekly workshops at the Y for all participants to help them get the most out of their experience. Topics will include stress management, sustaining your weight loss, changing up your workout for greater impact, preparing nutritious meals, and more. Participants are also eligible for special personal training packages from the Y’s trainers and non-members can use the Y’s Fitness Center for the duration of the challenge for a reduced rate. Stop by the Y to sign up or call 564-7111.
