Androscoggin Bank promotes Simko to senior vice president

LEWISTON — Androscoggin Bank is excited to announce that Director of Government Banking John Simko, has been promoted to senior vice president. This promotion acknowledges John’s exceptional leadership and his significant contributions to the Bank.

Simko joined Androscoggin Bank over seven years ago as a municipal lender, leveraging his extensive experience and connections in local government. His efforts have significantly enhanced the Androscoggin Bank brand within our footprint and beyond. Recognized as an expert in municipal finance, Simko has been instrumental in expanding our services and influence across Maine’s local government sectors. Moreover, since taking over as director of government banking last year, Simko has driven the growth of the bank’s deposit base, led the successful launch of the Piscataquis County Business Office, and developed a strong, motivated sales team.

With this promotion, Simko will continue in his role as director of government banking, leading municipal sales efforts on both the deposit and lending side as well as managing the government banking goals, budgets, and approval process.

Simko’s background includes over two decades in municipal management and finance, serving as town manager for Greenville and Sangerville, and working on the staff of then-U.S. Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. Simko holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and sociology from Bowdoin College and has completed a Municipal Leadership Course at the Muskie School of Public Service. He has been honored with numerous awards, including the Maine Town and City Management Association’s “Rookie of the Year” Award, the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council’s Warren “Pete” Myrick Community Service Award, and Androscoggin Bank’s “Officer of the Year” for 2019. 

Beyond his banking career, Simko has dedicated 30 years to volunteer firefighting and 27 years as a part-time Advanced EMT. He served for a decade as a trustee for Foxcroft Academy, and currently serves as the bank’s representative to the Maine Banker’s Association’s Legislative Committee. Simko is also the chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Maine Municipal Bond Bank. He and his wife Amanda live in Greenville and enjoy many outdoor adventures with their young boys.
