Penquis’ Williams and Chai have first-place performances

OLD TOWN — The Penquis Valley High School boys scored 27 points to finish fifth among a field of five teams at a Penobscot Valley Conference meet on May 4 at Old Town High School.

The Patriots’ Jareth Williams earned top honors in the 100 meters. Williams ran the event in 11.90 seconds as the only sprinter to break the 12-second mark at the competition.

He anchored the second-place 4×100 relay as Lucas Chai, James Chenkin, Donovan McEwen, and Williams covered the lap in a time of 48.90 seconds. Williams was also third in the long jump with his distance of 17 feet, 7 inches.

Chai earned top honors in the triple jump as he landed a distance of 36-08.75. Chai also finished fifth in the 200 with his time of 26.59 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, Penquis placed fourth among five schools with a score of 18 points.

The Patriot 4×100 relay — comprised of Layla Chai, Violet Chai, Caysie Moore, and Addison Conklin, finished third in 59.38 seconds.

Decker had a third-place throw in the discus at 73-01.

Conklin scored points in the javelin and triple jump as she was fourth in the javelin at 8-10 and fifth in the triple jump at 26-06.75.
