Waves compete at Old Town
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA Waves visited the Old Town Y on Saturday, Feb. 2 to compete against the Barracudas from Bangor and the Sharks from MDI in a closed meet between the three teams. The Waves team was short several swimmers because of conflicts between high school meets and basketball playoffs but for the swimmers who made the meet there were some great individual swims.
The Waves had one swimmer with a first-place finish as Jenna Clukey came in first in the 50 free, 50 back and the 100 fly. The Waves had one swimmer, Abigail Henderson, with a second-place finish in the 100 breast. The Waves had several third-place finishes including Erica Cole in the 100 back, Chloe Waugh in the 100 breast and the 50 back and Peyton Wellman in the 25 back.

Waves swimmers with personal best times at the meet were Ian Blackstone, Wyatt Blackstone, Barbro, Clukey, Cole, Hunter Kemp, Diana Voter, Amy Waugh, Ateon Whitney, Wellman, and Chloe Waugh.
The swimmer taking off the most time from their previous best time gets recognized as the “Biggest Loser.” The swimmer taking the most time off a previous best time was Waugh. She took the most time off a single event by taking a respectable 3.97 seconds off her 100 breaststroke. Honorable mentions for “Biggest Loser” was her younger sister Amy Waugh for taking 3.32 off her 50 breaststroke.
The Waves swim team will be practicing hard to get ready for the grand finale, the two day state meet held on the UMaine campus at the Wallace Pool. This meet includes all the Y swim teams from across Maine. In order to be eligible to swim at the Y state meet swimmers must have swam in at least three Y meets during the season. The Waves will be taking 26 swimmers to swim in the state meet.
