Foxcroft Academy boys and girls tennis fall in Class B championships

PORTLAND — Foxcroft Academy made history by winning not one but the first two regional tennis championships in school history as both the Pony boys and girls won Class B North titles on June 3 at Bates College in Lewiston.

The championship match victories advanced the two Foxcroft squads to the 2023 Class B championships on Wednesday, June 7 at Apex Racket and Fitness in Portland against the South champion Yarmouth High School boys and Greely High School of Cumberland girls.

CLASS B RUNNERS-UP — Both Foxcroft Academy tennis teams took part in the Class B championships on June 7 at Apex Racket and Fitness in Portland, the first berth in the state finals for either team. The boys fell 4-1 to Yarmouth and the girls were defeated by Greely 5-0.

The Yarmouth boys earned a fourth straight state title with a 4-1 victory over Foxcroft Academy. The Greely girls earned a fourth state title in 10 years with a 5-0 win. The Ranger girls also won championships in 2014, 2015, and 2017.

The Foxcroft boys finished at 14-2, while Yarmouth concluded at 16-0. The Pony girls ended 2023 at 10-6 while Greely capped off a 16-0 season.
