MCF awards $3,000 grant to TCTC

DEXTER — Tri-County Technical Center recently received a $3,000 grant from the Miltiades Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.

The center will use these funds to support and enhance the pre-technical program at the school.
Usually referred to as pre-tech, this program helps students who are less than successful in academics to continue their education in a setting designed to connect or reconnect them to school in an exciting, hands-on environment.
Students engage in projects focused on building their skills in science, technology, engineering and math. They do real work with sustainable green energy, locally-produced food, agriculture, food preparation and community service.
In addition, pre-tech students build their reading and writing skills by studying works by Maine authors and examples of relevant contemporary literature.
The pre-tech program instills excitement and personal investment in learning.
At the end of the one-year program, students leave pre-tech and move forward to other programs at the technical center while continuing their academic endeavors at their own schools.
The pre-tech staff is looking forward to documenting how they use this generous grant from the Miltiades Fund of the Maine Community Foundation in order to share the great things the donors made possible for pre-tech students.
There is no doubt that these funds will make enhancement of an already-great program possible.
