GFWC Miosac Club news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — President Minnie McCormick read a poem and then opened and called to order the April 18 meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, the Miosac Club of Dover-Foxcroft.

McCormick announced that the hostesses for the evening were Betsey Ryan and Rheba Michaud. Program Chair was Anne Cress. GFWC Maine President Maureen Provencal was introduced as the evening’s speaker, taking place after the business meeting. McCormick asked if members brought their club pins and booklets.

Wendy Hutchins led the Club Collect, Pledge of Allegiance, and the American’s Creed.

Diane Leighton led a roll call with 11 members and one guest present.

Leighton read the secretary’s report — accepted and filed.

Roxy McLaughlin announced there were no letters to read.

Raymond read the treasurer’s report — accepted and filed.

Brenda Quiet of the advisory committee announced the next meeting is on May 2 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church and the topic will be the annual report. She and McLaughlin are hostesses. Bring your own bag lunch, dessert and drinks will be offered.

Moschella announced the previous meeting’s newspaper article was in the April 14 issue of the Piscaaquis Observer. 

There were four members ill, according to the lookout chair.

Old business: appoint committee chair for yard sale … Hutchins volunteered. Raymond will bring monies for change the Friday night before the yard sale. Cress will supply tables.  Moschella will write an article for the Piscataquis Observer to print about the yard sale. Making posters will be McCormick, Hutchins, and Ryan. Hutchins will bring awning.

Raymond had ballots ready for the members to vote on which of the business candidates that were picked would receive a donation from the GFWC Miosac Club. Raymond will disperse the donations as voted.

Reminder to members, the local art show for Foxcroft Academy will be April 28 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. or so. Judging will be by Suzette East in the art classroom of teacher Martha Ladd.  

Sign-up sheet will be waiting  for attendees for sign-in. Please bring cookies or snacks.

Provencal will be traveling to all the club sites in the state throughout her tenure., a wonderful speaker.

McCormick adjourned the meeting and the hostesses offered cake, drinks, and other delicious snacks.
