Foxcroft boys, PCHS girls finish fifth at first meet of 2023

BREWER – The Foxcroft Academy boys outdoor track and field team scored 57 points to place fifth among a field of seven teams during a season-opening Penobscot Valley Conference meet on April 19 at the Brewer Community School.

Pony senior Kyle Jankunas won the 300 hurdles in a time of exactly 44 seconds. He also came in second in the 100 hurdles at 16.54 seconds.

Janunkas ran the third leg of the 4×100 relay team as junior Jackson Smith, freshman Landon Smith, Jankunas, and senior Fernando Oliveiva combined for a time of 48.34 seconds.

Jackson Smith earned top honors in the high jump, clearing the bar at exactly 6 feet. Smith also came in third in the triple jump at a distance of 36-08 and was fifth in the long jump at 19-04.

Sophomore Runner Jarrett placed fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 with respective times of 5:06.14 and 11:18.14.

Oliveiva had a fourth-place performance in the 100 with his time of 25.11 seconds. Junior Jack Kingsbury cleared 5-06 in the high jump to come in fifth and junior Zachary Peirce was sixth in the 800 at 2:30.11.

The Dexter Regional High School boys finished sixth in the standings with five points.

Freshman Tanner Ladd had a fifth-place throw in the discus at 90-09. The Tiger 4×100 relay team came in fifth among point-scoring squads. Sophomore Thomas Burgess, freshman Brady Jerome, and seniors Alex Race and Cole Tibbetts had a time of 60.80 seconds.

Senior Alex Morris added a sixth-place finish in the 400 at 63.82 seconds.

PCHS came in seventh at the April 19 meet with one point. Junior Parker Kelley came in sixth in the 300 hurdles with his time of 58.85 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, the PCHS girls ended the day in fifth place among seven schools with a score of 51 points.

Senior Samantha Goodwin had the top performance of the meet in the javelin with her throw of 84-05. She also came in second in the 400 at 1:12.24.

Goodwin was the second runner of the fourth-place Pirate 4×100 relay. Senior Molly Sipple, Goodwin, sophomore Sarah Silva, and freshman Jazmin Channon finished the race in 57.51 seconds.

Sipple placed second in the 300 hurdles in 57.45 seconds. She was also third in the 100 at 13.43 seconds and fourth in the discus at a distance of 71-04.

Junior Mayara Camazon finished third in the 300 hurdles at 68.89 seconds.

PCHS had fifth-place performances from sophomore Kaelyn Bussell in the high jump at 4-00 and junior Kendall Kimball in the discus at 69-10. Freshman Molly Goodwin was sixth in the 800 at 3:12.88.

The Foxcroft Academy girls scored 20 points to place sixth at Brewer.

Pony senior Olivia Hill came in third in both the shot put and discus with her respective throws measuring 26-08 and 80-10. She also was sixth in the javelin at 72-01.

Junior Allison Smith placed fourth in the shot at 26-03.

Foxcroft’s 4×100 relay — sophomore Alexis Heretakis, senior Noa Clark, junior Paige Weidman, and freshman Lillian Makowski — finished fifth in 61.24 seconds. Heretakis also was sixth in the 200 at 30.94 seconds.

For the Dexter girls, senior Elyssa Jerome came in sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.79 seconds to score her team’s point.
