Three Pony alumni compete in New England Division III college track and field championships

Three Foxcroft Academy graduates took part in the New England Div. III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 16.

In the women’s meet at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, sophomore Emily Panciera of the host school — a resident of Monson and 2011 Foxcroft Academy graduate — ran the first leg of the second-place 4×400 relay. Panciera and her three relay teammates combined for a time of 3 minutes, 58.92 seconds, less than a second behind the 3:58.15 for Colby College.

Panciera was also the third runner for the Huskies’ 4×200 relay team, which came in fourth with a time of 1:45.77 — less than two tenths behind the winning time of 1:45.58 for Worcester (Mass.) State University.

USM freshman Chelsie Oldfield, a resident of Dover-Foxcroft and a member of the Foxcroft Academy Class of 2012, ran the second leg of the Husky distance medley relay. The squad placed 10th with a time of 12:52.39.

USM finished the meet with 35 points to tie Amherst (Mass.) College for ninth place out of 26 teams.

Bates College in Lewiston hosted the men’s championship, and running in the 3,000 was Bates senior Graham Pearsall. The 2009 Foxcroft Academy graduate finished 13th in the event with a time of 8:55.29.

Bates tallied 94 points, to place second among the 22 teams. Massachusetts Institute of Technology won with 118.50 points to claim the program’s third New England title in the last four years.
